The Children’s Mentoring Connection of Hancock County began as a Big Brothers Agency in 1974. The Big Sisters program was added in 1978 and, in May of 2004, the Board of Directors voted to discontinue the affiliation with BBBS of America and officially became a locally independent organization.
CMC provides a professionally monitored mentoring program for boys and girls, primarily from single parent families. It is our vision that every qualified child, needing services will be actively engaged in a mentoring relationship designed to enhance their personal growth as competent, caring and confident individuals.
The agency staff recruits, screens and closely evaluates adult applicants while gathering a complete social history and personality profile on each youth applicant. Once a match between adult and child is made, follow-up supervision and guidance is provided to the mentor, client and parent/guardian. The volunteer works with the child in an asset-building relationship in the areas of growth and development, prevention, life-skills, problem solving and decision making. If there are additional problems in the family the Case Manager will offer support, networking and referral service to other Hancock County social service agencies.
The Boot™ is a rectangular-shaped plate of 1/4 inch thick cold-rolled industrial steel. Each of its two steel pegs offer 8,000 pounds per square inch (psi) of tensile strength - totaling 16,000 psi when both pegs are fully engaged. The Boot™ weighs five pounds, offering tremendous strength to prevent entry from danger on the other side of your door.
Ideal for use in all school settings -- classrooms, school offices, building or cafeteria entry doors -- The Boot™ provides an additional level of security during a lockdown that until now has been missing.
ART OF A PATENT-PENDING SAFETY SYSTEM
The Boot™ is part of a patent-pending safety system. It is the first safety device of its kind to furnish a patent-pending release mechanism. Using the Spin Key™, emergency personnel (law enforcement, fire or EMS personnel or designated school officials ) can quickly gain access to a space secured by The Boot™ following resolution of a crisis situation.
